It has a robust gravity system, it transitions between various modes of gameplay, from regular run-and-gun stuff to vehicle sections, with ease, it had revolutionary facial animation (for the time), but there is one aspect that occasionally leaves it lacking: level design and traversal. It is still an absolute classic, and it ushered in a new age of narrative-oriented gaming, but the sequel was the one that really solidified it as a juggernaut of gaming tech. Half-life 2 has aged more gracefully than Half-life 1.
